It is of Byzantine origin and is made up of different environments carved into the rock, which constituted a real village. Very reminiscent of the village of Chiafura a Scicli , originating from the same period.

In the Byzantine village of Calascibetta there are a total of thirty caves for residential use and two rock churches . In remote times the caves were dug into the rock by the Sicans , an ancient people who lived in Sicily and were used as tombs. Then during the Byzantine period in Sicily the place was transformed into a real village . Something similar, in an even more fascinating place, characterized by canyons, ponds and small rivers, is located in Pantalica.

The park is run by volunteers from the “Hisn Al-Giran” association who take care of it and guide tourists. The place is very well-kept and is equipped with information panels in Italian and English. Definitely a good example of care and enhancement of the territory. Thank you guys.
