In this article you will find out what to see in Agira. The medieval village of Agira is located on Mount Teja and this area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The first real inhabited center was founded by the Sicans, the first people together with the Sicilians and helmets to be present in Sicily. In fact, its name seems to come from the name of the Sican leaders Agiride .

In Agira, the various small churches scattered throughout the area and the ruins of the medieval castle are worth a visit, from which you have a magnificent view of the surrounding hills , Lake Pozzillo and Mount Etna in the background, truly a spectacle. Admission is free, the place is unfortunately a bit abandoned, but the view from up there absolutely fills these shortcomings.

Where to eat

A good rustic looking restaurant with a stunning view of Mount Etna and Lake Pozzillo is the Belvedere. The prices are low and the restaurant offers traditional cuisine, with simple and abundant dishes. Here you will also find cassatelle, the traditional sweets of Agira, with almonds and ricotta.
