Punta Secca in Santa Croce Camerina, called Marinella in the fictional Commissario Montalbano, is located in a seaside village in the province of Ragusa. Right here you can admire Montalbano’s beautiful house and more.

Tip from Topsecretsicily: If you wish, you can book a convenient guided tour in the footsteps of Commissioner Montalbano. You will be picked up directly from your vacation home or hotel if you are in the Catania, Syracuse or Taormina areas.

What to see in Punta Secca

1. The house of Montalbano

In the early 1900s the house was used as a warehouse for drying fish. In 1904, it was then purchased by the Quattro family, who transformed it into a beautiful home.e. The house is now a Bed&Breakfast so it is not possible to visit it inside, but of course no one forbids you to get close and see it up close. If you are interested in staying here, you can find all the information on the website of the B&B .

Obviously in Punta Secca you can also relax on the beach and take some warm Sicilian sun. The beach in front of Montalbano’s house is free, while if you want to go to a beach, you will have to go to a nearby beach, where you will find the small Anticaglie lido.

4. Torre Scalambri and the bar

The tower was built in 1593-1594 by Giovanni Cosimo Bellomo, a nobleman of Syracuse, as a defense of Punta Secca only to be restored in 1747. It was in visual connection with the other nearby towers, namely that of Santa Croce Camerina, Punta Braccetto and the Cabrera tower. This historic monument was in danger of being lost forever, after it passed into the hands of private individuals around 1900. In fact, the tower was completely overturned, to be used as a dwelling. Doors, windows and even balconies were built. Fortunately, in 2013 a conservative restoration was carried out which restored its ancient appearance.

In this tower today there is a bar / rotisserie, where you can enjoy, perhaps on the terrace right in front of the sea, arancini, ice creams, croissants with ricotta and much more. Appetizers are also served during sunset.

Where to eat in Punta Secca

In addition to the Enzo a mare restaurant described above, a nice place to eat in Punta Secca is the Pappappero, which also has a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea. The food is good, the staff is very nice and the prices are not high. For breakfast you can go to the Scalambri tower instead.
