The Irminio River Mouth Nature Reserve is a little piece of paradise, where the hand of man is almost totally absent. It is located at the point where the river, which originates at Monte Lauro in the Iblei Mountains and runs 52 km, flows. In ‘antiquity, until the early Middle Ages, it was even used as a means of navigation for trade. Then due to deforestation, its range has been reduced considerably.
To enjoy this beautiful place and spend an alternative day, you can park comfortably at the entrance to the reserve, where you will find an open space. Remember that it is forbidden to bathe or bring pets.
You will walk paths among dwarf palms, agave, willows, eucalyptus and sugar cane accompanied by the sound of the river slowly guiding you to the sea. Along the way, with a little luck, you can also spot migratory birds, foxes, wild bunnies or the friendly nutria. In this regard, a wooden lookout tower was made available.
At the end of the path you will suddenly find yourself on the beach, as if you too had been carried there by the river like a pebble. Precisely the latter and the tree trunks carried by the current make the Irminio river mouth nature reserve a unique place of its kind.

Welcome to Top Secret Sicily, my name is Dario Lo Turco and a few years ago I decided to create this site. My goal is to make known the treasures of Sicily, even the less known ( Hence the name Top Secret Sicily) in the clearest and simplest way possible 😊. I have been fortunate enough to be able to tour this island and have read several books and guides about Sicily. At the same time I work in the online world and these passions have allowed me to create Top Secret Sicily.
