Pozzallo, like Milazzo , is mainly known for its port and connections to the island of Malta, but the country has a lot to offer. Pozzallo does not have many monuments as is normally expected from a typical Italian town, but the coastal area is still very beautiful and characteristic. The sea is calm with shallow waters, the beach is wide and sandy, the promenade is spacious and modern and a beautiful Aragonese tower overlooks the sea. Let’s go now to find out what to see and where to eat in Pozzallo.

Magnificent view from the Tower

The Tower was built in the 15th century by the Aragonese, to defend themselves from attacks by pirates and enemies in general. It takes its name from Count Cabrera, who asked the king for permission to have it built. Prisoners were also held here, and many were executed by drowning, chained on the rocks, waitingafter high tide.

The tower was restored in 2017 and was finally made accessible for free to the public. Also very beautiful is the wooden pier above the sea, which goes around the tower, which allows you to observe it at its best.

Entrance times: From Monday to Saturday from 9 to 12.30 and from 16.45 to 19.45. Free entry. Rates and times may change.

2. Town hall and waterfront

Also worth visiting is the nearby Giorgio la Pira Municipal Palace (1923), graced by a small garden with a large ficus tree, and the nearby Piazza delle Rimembranze. But the real highlight of Pozzallo is the Pietre nere promenade. It is very well kept, green, wide and away from traffic. Here, especially in the evening, you can relax, eat a nice ice cream and enjoy the sea air.

What and where to eat

After having seen what to see in Pozzallo, let’s think about food. The most striking place to have lunch or dinner in Pozzallo is definitely in the beautiful little square in front of Torre Cabrera. You can eat excellent pizza at the “I Cabrera” restaurant, while for first or second courses you can go to the “Sabbenerica” restaurant. Finally, at the restaurant “A calata o Ponti” you can book a table directly on the beach.
