What to see in Scopello
The historic center of Scopello
The fulcrum of Scopello is its square, Neptune square from which the whole village develops. The town is worth visiting on foot, getting lost in the small streets where there is no shortage of children shops, clubs, wonderful viewpoints and restaurants . The village is very well kept, with typical houses, brick streets and many plants and flowers. Do not miss the panoramic point “Parco Rupestre Re Ferdinando”, a terrace surrounded by nature, from where you can admire the sea, the coast, the stacks and the trap, a show.
You will find several restaurants, as well as takeaways where you can try good street food, such as pane cunzatu (stuffed bread). In this article you will find an interactive map with all the places to visit and recommendations on where to eat.
The Tonnara of Scopello
To visit the tonnara, you must leave your car in a nearby car park at a cost of 5 Euros. After that, a small path in the middle of nature awaits you to walk, which will give you a splendid view from above on this wonder of nature. The entrance to the tonnara costs 7 Euros and includes deckchairs (limited availability) and a guided tour. Sea shoes and masks are recommended for snokerling and admiring the beautiful backdrops. Please note that the place can be very busy, especially in August.
Bennistra Tower
The Torre Bennistra is part of a defense system together with other towers scattered throughout the territory and is only a 10-minute walk from Scopello (the path can be reached from the village parking lot). It dates back to the 16th century and was completely restored in 2015. From here you will have a wonderful 360 degree view of Scopello, the coast and the surrounding hills. Absolutely not to be missed.
The beaches of the Zingaro Nature Reserve
Near Scopello there is one of the 2 entrances to the Riserva dello Zingaro (the other is located in San Vito Lo Capo). Here you will find many beautiful coves surrounded by nature and the sea here is really magnificent, absolutely recommended.
To get there you will still have to walk through the reserve, so avoid the hot hours and don’t forget to bring water and tennis and beach shoes with you. The first coves are still located about 10 minutes on foot after parking the car. Near the entrance to the San Vito Lo Capo reserve, you will find the Cala Tonnarella dell’Uzzo , next to the other, near Scopello, the Cala Capreria . Here you can find the article on the Riserva dello Zingaro , with all the information you need to visit it.
