After the earthquake of 1693 which reduced the nearby medieval village of Occhiolà to dust, a new urban center was created, Grammichele. The peculiarity of this town is the urban structure that starts from a beautiful central square and develops in the shape of concentric hexagons .
The huge square is the main attraction , the square overlooked by the eighteenth-century Mother Church and the Town Hall (1896). The latter houses the Civic Museum, which houses artifacts discovered in the area (Open: Tuesday-Saturday 09-13, 15-19, ticket 2 Euro).
Not far from Grammichele is the Occhiolà Archaeological Park, open every day from 9 to 17 (closed from 13 to 15), where you will find the remains of the medieval village of the same name, destroyed by the earthquake .
