Introduction

Acitrezza is a village overlooking the sea, amid remnants of lava flows that have come so far, legends and novels. In fact, it was in this place that Giovanni Verga set the famous Malavoglia novel of 1881.

Here the bond with the sea is very strong, therefore this is the ideal place to eat good fresh fish in a truly magical and relaxing setting.

The waterfront and the Cyclops stacks

The town is suitable for a nice romantic walk along the seafront, up to a beautiful square, which will show you the stacks of the Cyclops in all their beauty . These are majestic rocks that emerge from the sea forming a small archipelago. Magnificent especially the atmosphere and colors created here at sunrise.

The Isole dei Ciclopi Protected Marine Area was also established here. Legend has it that these stacks were thrown by Polyphemus, the one-eyed giant, in an attempt to kill Odysseus, who was fleeing after blinding him.

Acicastello

Not far away is Acicastello, to be reached anyway by car starting from Acitrezza. You can park your car in Via G. Pezzana and then stroll along the seafront until you reach the beautiful Norman castle. Castle built in 1092 overlooking the sea, with a fascinating garden of succulents. Inside the castle there is also the Civic Museum which houses archeology and volcanology finds. The square in front of it is also very beautiful and panoramic from which you can admire the stacks in the distance and overlooked by the Mother Church in lava stone.

What to eat in Acitrezza

Here there is little to discuss, in Acitrezza you have to eat fish . You will find various restaurants overlooking the seafront, in the area in front of the port. They are all very good and well reviewed, you can easily base your choice perhaps by reading the reviews of various customers. Among all the restaurants, the one that still enjoys the best view of the stacks and the Norman castle of Acicastello is Sicilia’s Cafe de Ma r. It is located right in front of the panoramic square of Acitrezza.
