Falconara Castle is located in the municipality of Butera and has a long history, as does the stretch of beach it overlooks. It was built and expanded at different times, the original structure was the tower (of uncertain date, but certainly built not after the 9th century) in which falcons were also trained for hunting, hence the name.

The castle had a defense function and as mentioned it was modified and enlarged over the centuries and around 1800 new buildings were created, in which the nobility of the time resided . Today the castle is privately owned and is used as a hotel and as a ceremonial hall. You can still admire it from the beach and spend a day by the sea on this fascinating stretch of coast, with the castle in the background.

Top secret tip: By swimming towards the back of the castle you will arrive at another very pretty beach, where you will have another beautiful perspective of the castle.

Where to eat

Between the two castles there is a good restaurant, where you can eat typical dishes of the Sicilian peasant culture, the restaurant “Senza funnu”. The name in Italian means “Bottomless”, thus alluding to the quantity of food.
