The first real inhabited center was founded by the Sicans, the first people together with the Sicilians and helmets to be present in Sicily. In fact, its name seems to come from the name of the Sican leaders Agiride .
In Agira, the various small churches scattered throughout the area and the ruins of the medieval castle are worth a visit, from which you have a magnificent view of the surrounding hills , Lake Pozzillo and Mount Etna in the background, truly a spectacle. Admission is free, the place is unfortunately a bit abandoned, but the view from up there absolutely fills these shortcomings.
