In this article you will find out what to see in Calascibetta. This is a little-known medieval hamlet, but really very pretty and with some remarkable archaeological finds. The name has Arab origins, but it was the Normans who sanctioned the birth of the village around the 11th century. The country is also visible from Enna , from there you have a fantastic view over it and the surrounding hills.

Il centro storico

Returning to the history of the village of Calascibetta, Ruggero the Norman had a castle built here (of which only a tower remains) which he surrounded by walls, making it the base of operations to attack and defeat the city of Enna . After many years, the scenic square overlooked by the tower and the adjacent church (Also commissioned by Roger the Norman) has been reopened, so you can visit it.

Another place to see is the Jewish quarter born in the fourteenth century . Jews live here far from Christians, but they were tolerated and engaged in trade, usury and crafts.

The caves

In via Carcere there are also ancient caves carved into the rock , probably of Byzantine origin. However, this is only a preview of what awaits you not far from the town, an entire village built into the rock, the Byzantine village or by Canalotto .

Finally in Calascibetta you can visit several churches, which are listed in the interactive map below.
