Introduction

Santa Maria del Focallo is a hidden gem that offers a unique beach characterized by beautiful sand dunes. It is part of the beautiful municipality of Ispica and is a perfect destination for those seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle. I decided to live here and as you can see from the photos it is a little paradise.

Unlike the more crowded beaches of Sicily, this location offers a more intimate and private space. It is an ideal place for those who wish to relax, read a book, sunbathe or find themselves.

What to see in Santa Maria del Focallo

The Sand Dunes of Santa Maria del Focallo

The distinguishing feature of Santa Maria del Focallo is definitely its extraordinary sand dune conformation. These dunes are a pristine beauty stretching for miles along the coast. The fine, golden sand forms ridges and depressions, creating spectacular scenery.

Water Activities and Yoga on the Beach

If you’re looking for some action, Santa Maria del Focallo offers the opportunity to participate in windsurfing, kitesurfing and SUP lessons. The windy area, calm waters and mild climate make this area perfect for those who enjoy these activities, which are offered by the Zuma beach lido.

If you want to relax and find yourself instead, you can practice yoga on the beach and watch the sun set over the sea. Just turn to the Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House.

A Magical Atmosphere at Sunset

One of the most striking moments in Santa Maria del Focallo is sunset. The sand dunes provide a perfect vantage point for watching the sun disappear over the horizon. The sky is tinged with orange and pink colors, creating an unforgettable spectacle. This is a video made by my girlfriend a few meters from our house:

What to do in the surrounding area

About a 10-minute drive away is Pozzallo. Strolling along the beautiful waterfront you will find many bars and restaurants. Alternatively you can also go to Ispica, which is quieter but very nice to visit.

Santa Maria del Focallo is also strategically located, about only half an hour from Scicli, Noto, Modica, and Ragusa Ibla, all Baroque gems.
